En este afán por contribuir al perfeccionamiento humano desde Guantánamo, me complace anunciar nuestra colaboración con Raisa Martín Lobo. Para algunas personas, vivir en Caimanera, municipio más pequeño del país y pueblo pesquero del mismo nombre, significa estar asociado directamente a la Base Naval norteamericana que ilegalmente ocupa hace más de un siglo el gobierno de los Estados Unidos en territorio guantanamero. Sin embargo, Caimanera es más, es la primera trinchera antimperialista de Cuba.
Caminar entre sus pobladores, es presumir que por sorprendente que parezca para algunos, no temen vivir tan cerca de dicho terreno. Y esto lo confirma el espíritu de cubano convencido de sentirse más orgulloso por vivir cerca de ese pedazo de tierra amputada a la fuerza, en la entrada a ambos lados de la bahía de Guantánamo, la mayor en tamaño y la tercera con forma de bolsa más grande de nuestro planeta.
Su vegetación es amarillenta, y su clima es semidesértico, muy caliente. Es un poblado pequeño, donde el sol provoca un calor insoportable, motivo esencial para que el nivel de evaporación y las bajas lluvias del entorno, dan fe del éxito de las salinas Cerro Guayabo y Frank País, esta última definida como la de mayor producción nacional.
Caimanera tiene sus cosas buenas y malas…
“Siempre he vivido aquí en Caimanera, mi familia siempre ha estado acá, me comenta Adonis Navarro Durand a quien encontramos en la librería Andrés Frómeta de este municipio. Vivir aquí, como en todo lugar, tiene sus cosas buenas y también malas.
”Lo bueno, a mi juicio, es respirar el aire marino, sentir el olor a pescado, ver cerca las inmensas montañas de ese infierno blanco que es la salina, disfrutar de la felicidad de ver a nuestros niños y niñas crecer, despuntar en sus proyectos. ¿Lo malo? es el intenso calor que sentimos en este costero poblado y que cada noche, queramos o no, tenemos que compartir nuestras horas de sueño con los “vecinos” de al lado.
”Estar aquí, pegadito a la ilegal base naval, no ha influido en ningún aspecto de mi vida laboral ni personal y estoy completamente seguro de que tampoco en ninguno de los pobladores. La Revolución Cubana ha puesto aquí en Caimanera, lo que tenía que poner, en mi caso particular, me he superado profesionalmente y estoy muy orgulloso de ello.
”El cien por ciento de los caimanerenses hemos nacido y vivido con la presencia del enclave militar ahí mismo, en nuestras propias narices. Sin embargo, como otros cubanos, gozamos de todos los programas de la revolución como la salud, educación, deporte, cultura…
”Estoy orgulloso de vivir en Caimanera. Nosotros tenemos una conciencia patriótica, somos pobladores que estamos muy orgullosos de vivir aquí, de andar sus calles de tierra o pavimento, de visitar una de esas tantas casas e instituciones que se levantan del agua sobre pilotes, de caminar por la orilla de la playa, de bañarnos en ella, de convivir con los pescadores.
”Si no tuviéramos la presencia de la ilegal base naval, nuestras conquistas sociales estuvieran a un mayor nivel. Por eso siempre digo que aquí, en Caimanera, tenemos un doble bloqueo: el del gobierno de los Estados Unidos y la presencia del enclave”, concluyó Adonis.
Y es que solo conversar con sus pobladores, presupone la explicación de la estación naval de la Bahía de Guantánamo que se estableció en este espacio del municipio costero de Caimanera tras anexarse la Enmienda Platt a la Constitución cubana de 1901.
De aquí yo no me voy…
Osmara Calderón Bell es una mujer de 73 años que siempre ha vivido en Caimanera. El profundo amor que siente por esta tierra lo evidencia en los gestos y en sus convincentes palabras: “Yo nací en Caimanera, mi familia es de Santiago de Cuba y mis antecedentes vinieron para acá desde hace ya mucho tiempo.
”Nunca he salido de aquí, sólo cuando me fui a alfabetizar y posteriormente estudié en La Habana, pero regresé. Mi familia siempre fue muy integrada, recuerdo que pertenecíamos a una institución no gubernamental que llevaba por nombre los BoyScaut, era una organización como si fuera de exploradores, la integrábamos los jóvenes y ahí hacíamos diferentes actividades.
Osmara, quien fue además maestra voluntaria, fundadora de los CDR, la FMC, aseveró que: “Jamás he pensado irme de Caimanera, de aquí no salgo, jamás podré salir de aquí porque me ata la tierra, la sal, el olor a mar. No podría vivir en otro lugar, mis padres y mis abuelos también vivieron aquí. Yo amo demasiado este pedacito de Caimanera.
”La presencia del enclave militar aquí jamás influyó en nuestras vidas. Me gusta tanto lo cubano que el hecho de que aún estén tan cerca de nosotros, no tiene significado alguno para la gente de este pueblo a quienes nos caracteriza el amor a la Patria, el sacrificio y la lealtad a su Revolución.
”El lugar donde está la base naval es precioso, ahí estuve varias veces con mis padres de visita. Recuerdo que cuando tenía unos doce años me llevaron a una fiesta, otras veces iba de paseo en las vacaciones. Las playas son muy lindas de arena blanca y fina, son hermosos los establecimientos comerciales, sus calles, es un lindo lugar, muy lindo…
”La última vez que estuve allí fue unos días antes de la Toma de Caimanera, imagínate hace ya más de 55 años, sin embargo, lo recuerdo como si fuera hoy. Siempre le digo a mis hijos y a otros jóvenes que algún día podrán estar ahí, que podrán disfrutar de todo lo que hay en ese pedazo de Cuba que es nuestro. Ya se irán y nos dejarán lo que nos han arrebatado, de eso estoy completamente segura”, concluye Osmara.
Hoy Caimanera está lejos de ser aquel lugar que conoció muy de cerca lo que era el capitalismo. Es un pueblo que está lejos de ser aquel que se hundía en la miseria, el desempleo y el analfabetismo, infortunios erradicados con el triunfo revolucionario del 1ro de enero de 1959.
Caimanera es un municipio al cual el gobierno garantiza a todos sus ciudadanos el goce de las conquistas alcanzadas por la Revolución. Es un pueblo que crece en la medida de su historia, un pueblo que levanta su voz para tejer su propio destino y sus propias leyendas.
